My interest in electricity first began in the fourth grade, when my father unexpectedly arrived in my classroom one afternoon with a demonstration in hand. Being a master electrician, he wanted to teach my class the basics of electricity. What he brought with him were the components of a simple doorbell circuit, all stapled and screwed to a plywood board, allowing the students to see exactly how the circuit functioned. That evening I studied the homemade circuit board tirelessly, realizing I wanted to be an electrician too someday.
And so I began working summers throughout high school with my father and his crew, learning basic residential and commercial wiring methods, both the old school and modern way. Working mostly in Boston and the surrounding suburbs, I developed a fascination and respect for the construction and wiring in these old homes, and was eager to learn more.
My passion for electricity soon brought me to the Benjamin Franklin Institute in Boston, where I enrolled in the electrical technology program. Studying under some of the best master electricians turned professors, I learned in depth electrical code, circuit theory, motor controls, and photovoltaics. Graduating with an associate degree in electrical technology, I was well prepared for a career in the field.
Over the next few years, I trained under some of the most respected electrical contractors in the Boston area, perfecting my trade as time passed. This dedication and unrelenting dream allowed me to become a licensed electrician, and eventually establish my own company, M. Kotowski Electrical.
This story is dedicated to my mother and father, Joanna and Bill Kotowski, for their love and support. To my mentor, Bill Severino, for his guidance and kindness. And to my former employers, Nancy and John Moore, for their loyalty and generosity.
